March 30, 2009 The Second Annual National Newspaper Award -2009 was held.
March 28-29, 2009 The Foundation conducted an International Conference on Newspaper Design and contest “The Best Newspaper Design in Kyrgyzstan-2008”
February 24, 2009 First newspaper from Russian Federation was printed in MSCF’s printing press. December 10, 2008 Kyrgyz Association of Publishers and Distributors of Periodical Press was registered with support from the Foundation. September 26, 2008 The Foundation celebrates the fifth anniversary of its independent printing press. September 12, 2008 Training seminar “Business planning, management and marketing in print media”, conducted by Tatyana Repkova, was finished July-August, 2008 The Foundation conducted “Summer Media Management School”.
May 15, 2008 On the Foundation’s initiative, the First Annual National Newspaper Award-2008 was held.
March 10, 2008 The first stage of modernization of equipment of MSCF printing press was completed.
December 30, 2007 The Foundation celebrates the fifth anniversary since its establishment.
October 3, 2007 After the training lab of the Foundation was opened, classes for journalists and technical staff of newspapers were conducted.
February 16, 2007 Training and Consulting Center prepared a five-year development plan of the Foundation; such issues as technical modernization, optimization of production, establishment of Journalism School and trainings for print media workers were outlined as having special importance.
September 21, 2007 Plate-shop, a new Foundation’s service, was presented.
June 2007 MSCF purchases a second prepress unit and introduces to the market of a new technology of stochastics. Now the appearance and printing quality of Kyrgyzstan newspapers can approximate those of magazines.
May 3, 2007 Kyrgyz Republic Prime Minister Alamazbek Atambaev visited the Foundation to mark the World Press Freedom Day. For the first time since its opening MSCF received guest of such a high status. April 19, 2007 Under written orders from the Prosecutor General’s Office, but without any court decision, all copies of Agym and Kyrgyz Rukhu newspapers were seized at the premises of Media Support Center Foundation. The confiscation coincided with the ending of an 11-day meeting of opposition. In the view of the incident, the Foundation’s Supervisory Board issued a letter for the President of the Kyrgyz Republic to convey its concerns.
September 2006 First graduates of the Foundation’s Comprehensive Training Program are awarded certificates. September 22, 2006 After conducting a range of pilot trainings, the Foundation designed and launched a Comprehensive Training Program for newspaper business specialists, which covers both technical and administrative aspects. September 11, 2006 For the first time, the meeting of the MSCF Executive Committee is conducted via the means of videoconference. The videoconference connected Bishkek, Brussels and Washington. September 8, 2006 For the first time in Kyrgyzstan, MSCF conducted a prepress training in Kyrgyz for production directors and designers of Kyrgyz-language titles. March 4, 2006 Martin Callanan, European Parliament member, chairs 6th meeting of the MSCF’s Supervisory Board. The input of Mike Stone, Freedom House Kyrgyz Printing Press Project Director, into the successful establishment of the Foundation, was specially acknowledged at the meeting. Stone’s mission in the Kyrgyz Republic came to an end. March 20, 2006 MSCF obtains a license from the KR Ministry of Education, Science and Youth Policy for training in the field of newspaper production. MSCF funds establishment of a small training center. July 2005 To render a faster and more qualitative service, MSCF increases its production capacity by purchasing a 4th section, a stacker and a couple of other pieces of equipment. May 16, 2005 The Foundation invites a media specialist from Moscow to conduct pilot trainings in newspaper design, layout, content and promotion and one-by-one consultations. February 22, 2005 At the threshold of parliamentarian elections, electricity to the printing press was cut off. The following day Ambassador Young responded promptly by providing on a rental basis two generators. The generators allowed the Foundation to resume printing, albeit on a slower scale and without the benefit of full-color printing, until electricity supply was resumed on March 8, 2005. December 12, 2004 The Foundation provided assistance to install a private independent printing press in Osh, southern Kyrgyzstan. December 1, 2004 MSCF prints first newspaper from Kazakhstan. November 18, 2004 Royal Embassy of Netherlands provided financial assistance to MSCF for covering consumables costs and gaining working capital. November 2, 2004 MSCF prints first newspaper from Tajikistan. October 21, 2004 Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway, provided financial assistance to MSCF for covering consumables costs and gaining working capital. August 31, 2004 MSCF prints first textbook intended for secondary school students. The printing was financed and organized by International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES). August, 2004 The printing house reaches the break even point. June 2, 2004 The Freedom House and Academy for Educational Development initiated a nationwide market-research survey to determine the reading, listening and viewing habits of the Kyrgyz population. March 23, 2004 MSCF prints first oblast newspaper. November 26, 2003 MSCF prints fist newspaper which becomes first full color newspaper ever printed in the Kyrgyz Republic. November 13, 2003 Grand opening of the printing press. The event was preceded by an extensive work on settling juridical issues, repairing the building, delivering and setting up the machinery. May 1, 2003 First meeting of MSCF Supervisory Committee. The international composition of the Committee members is chaired by Senator John McCain. Two Kyrgyz Republic representatives: Lt. Gen. Januzakov, President Administration representative, and Minister Aitmatov, Council of Ministers representative, appointed to the Committee. December 30, 2002 Media Support Center Foundation, a Kyrgyz non-profit organization, is created to run the new printing press. July 17, 2002 US State Department approved a project on creation of an independent printing house in the Kyrgyz Republic and awarded the contract to Freedom House Inc. 2001-2002 A group of interested parties expressed their interest in establishing an independent printing in the Kyrgyz Republic. |
